Roles & Responsibilities

Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
Provide professional consultations and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers
Perform and support instrumental swallowing evaluations (FEES) and other specialized assessments
Document patient progress and treatment plans clearly to support safe discharge and continuity of care
Operate and utilize augmentative communication devices, VitalStim, endoscope, and related clinical equipment
Contribute to patient-centered discharge planning to ensure safe transitions to home or next-level care

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist
Current American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification
Current certification in CPR at BLS/HCP level
Completion of a FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow) course — or completion within six (6) months of hire
Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of SLP experience in an acute care setting; prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Swallowing assessment and treatment (adult focus)
Speech and language and cognitive assessment
Experience with FEES and endoscopic swallowing evaluation
Familiarity with VitalStim and augmentative communication devices
Strong interdisciplinary team collaboration in an inpatient acute care environment
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-acuity trauma/acute care hospital
