Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform initial triage and full patient assessments for urgent care patients of all ages, prioritizing needs and maintaining patient flow
• Provide telephone triage and clinical advice, documenting assessments and recommendations clearly
• Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push/infusion) and initiate/maintain IV therapy as needed
• Perform clinical procedures, operate and monitor specialized equipment, and ensure a safe, clean work environment
• Document assessments, interventions, education and patient comprehension in the EMR accurately and timely
• Coordinate referrals and follow-up, tracking progress and keeping providers informed of outstanding issues
• Act as vaccine coordinator or secondary vaccine coordinator when assigned
• Respond to emergency situations and participate in department quality improvement and team development efforts

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX
• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
• Minimum of 2 years general nursing experience with at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care settings
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
• Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency required (to be completed within mandated timeframes)
• Ability to pass required annual competencies and maintain compliance with safety and infection control requirements

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required)
• High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
• Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency training per employer policy

Knowledge & Skills

• Triage and patient assessment across the lifespan — you’ll know what to ask and when to act
• Medication administration and IV therapy skills, including IV insertion and maintenance
• Solid clinical documentation/charting and familiarity with EMR systems
• Infection control and safety protocols to keep patients and staff protected
• Strong multi-tasking, time management and customer service skills
• Effective communication, teamwork, and ability to stay calm in urgent or emergent situations
