Roles & Responsibilities

• Interpret telemetry strips and sign at least once per shift to ensure continuous cardiac monitoring accuracy
• Deliver high-quality MedSurg and telemetry nursing care for general, orthopedic, spinal surgical, neuro and CVA/TIA patients
• Collaborate with remote tele/monitor techs and bedside team members to triage and respond to changes in patient status
• Administer and manage set-rate drips (e.g., diltiazem at set rates) per unit protocol
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner and complete required orientation/shift handoffs
• Assist with patient admissions, discharges and transfers while maintaining a 1:5 ratio workload
• Float to other units (East Campus or PCU) as requested and provide cross-cover when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state of practice) required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (as listed in job details)
• Hands-on experience reading basic telemetry strips and interpreting ECGs
• Experience caring for general medical/surgical, orthopedic surgical and neuro (CVA/TIA) patients
• Cerner experience recommended (orientation is brief: one shift on unit)
• Willingness to work night shifts and meet weekend/holiday scheduling needs

Education

• BSN not required (BSN: No listed requirement)
• Nursing diploma, ADN or BSN acceptable as appropriate for RN licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and ECG/tele strip interpretation
• MedSurg nursing fundamentals and orthopedic surgical care
• CVA/TIA and neuro patient assessment and care
• BLS and ACLS emergency response
• Familiarity with Cerner electronic charting
• Experience with high-flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP and CPAP equipment
