Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative care to pediatric patients, ensuring comfort and safety prior to procedures
• Perform focused pre-op assessments and document findings clearly and accurately
• Prepare patients and families by explaining procedures and addressing questions in an age-appropriate way
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth handoffs
• Monitor and report patient status changes promptly to the clinical team
• Participate in orientation and follow facility policies and pediatric pre-op protocols

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts or ability to obtain state licensure
• Experience or interest in pediatric nursing and pre-operative care
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfort working in a fast-paced perioperative environment and adapting to variable shift times
• Ability to complete required orientation and credentialing prior to shifts
• Clear background check and compliance with facility credentialing

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — equivalent experience considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong pediatric assessment skills and familiarity with pre-op screening
• Excellent communication with children, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to prioritize, document accurately, and follow clinical protocols
• A calm, reassuring bedside manner for anxious patients and caregivers
• Basic procedural skills relevant to pre-op nursing and familiarity with sterile workflow
