Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, ensuring safe recovery and comfort
• Continuously monitor vital signs and pain levels, intervening promptly when needed
• Administer medications and IV therapies accurately and document them in the patient record
• Assess airway and breathing, escalate concerns, and collaborate with anesthesia when required
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with families about recovery expectations and care plans
• Coordinate handoffs with the surgical and perioperative teams to maintain continuity of care
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Massachusetts or eligibility to obtain one
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) strongly preferred
• Clinical experience in PACU, pediatrics, or perioperative nursing is highly desirable
• Comfort working with pediatric patients post-anesthesia and managing acute recovery needs
• Up-to-date immunizations and ability to pass required background/credentialing checks
• Strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care and pediatric recovery assessment
• Airway management basics and monitoring for respiratory compromise
• Pain management strategies for pediatric patients
• IV access, medication administration, and medication safety practices
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and accurate documentation
• Effective family-centered communication and patient education
