Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery and comfort
• Monitor vital signs and clinical status, recognizing and responding to changes quickly and confidently
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered, with careful documentation and attention to safety
• Communicate clearly and empathetically with families about recovery progress and care needs
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to coordinate safe handoffs and continuity of care
• Participate in orientation and ongoing unit education to maintain high standards of pediatric post-op care

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid for practice in Massachusetts
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric nursing; PACU experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and ACLS preferred or encouraged
• Comfort with pediatric assessment, medication administration, and family-centered communication
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced perioperative environment and adapt during orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and pediatric airway management
• Skilled in monitoring and interpreting vital signs and post-op indicators
• Proficient in safe medication administration and documentation practices
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with children, families, and the perioperative team
• Good clinical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a dynamic setting
