Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia nursing care and ongoing assessment of patients emerging from anesthesia
• Monitor and interpret vital signs, airway status, and level of consciousness to ensure safe recovery
• Manage pain control and administer medications per protocols while closely documenting responses
• Assess and intervene for complications, escalating to anesthesia or surgical teams as needed
• Coordinate timely handoffs to inpatient units or discharge teams with clear, accurate documentation
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and post-discharge instructions
• Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient PACU environment to support patient throughput and comfort
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and workflow

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license in Louisiana or eligible for state licensure
• Proven PACU or post-anesthesia nursing experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and experience with airway and hemodynamic management
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced perioperative environment with excellent teamwork skills
• Ability to document accurately in electronic health records and follow facility policies

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of required state RN licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience with post-anesthesia assessment and recovery protocols
• Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration, and pain management strategies
• Familiarity with PACU equipment and monitoring devices
• Strong critical thinking and rapid decision-making under pressure
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients, families, and surgical teams
• Time management and prioritization in a high-acuity setting
