Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, patient-centered perioperative nursing care for patients in the operating room, from pre-op preparation through immediate post-op transfer.
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field, instruments, and equipment to support efficient, safe surgical procedures.
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthetists, surgical techs, and other team members to coordinate care and anticipate needs during cases.
- Perform thorough patient assessments, verify surgical consents and site, and ensure proper positioning and monitoring throughout procedures.
- Document perioperative care accurately in the medical record and communicate handoffs clearly to post-anesthesia and recovery teams.
- Participate in surgical count procedures and adhere to infection control and safety protocols to minimize risk.
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or the ability to obtain licensure prior to start.
- Experience in the Operating Room environment; perioperative experience preferred.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS and/or PALS a plus depending on facility needs.
- CNOR certification or working toward CNOR is a strong plus.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills; ability to remain calm and effective in the OR setting.
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). BSN preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and perioperative workflows.
- Proficiency in patient assessment, monitoring, and intraoperative documentation.
- Familiarity with common OR equipment and infection prevention standards.
- Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and adapt to changing case flow.
- Comfort using electronic medical records and documenting in real time.
