Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for Neuro Stepdown patients
• Perform frequent neurologic and hemodynamic assessments and respond to changes promptly
• Administer medications and manage complex infusions safely and accurately
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans with compassion
• Document care thoroughly and timely in the electronic medical record to ensure continuity
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana or compact nursing license
• BLS required; ACLS and neuro-specific certifications (e.g., stroke certification) preferred
• Previous experience in Neuro Stepdown, step-down/telemetry, or progressive care strongly preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills with the ability to prioritize and think critically
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and adapt to the unit’s staffing needs

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in neurologic assessment and monitoring (NIH Stroke Scale, pupillary checks, motor/sensory exams)
• Experience with cardiac telemetry and interpreting basic cardiac rhythms
• Familiarity with managing complex IV infusions, titratable drips, and post-op neuro care
• Skilled in clinical documentation and use of common EMRs
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and time management
• Compassionate patient and family education and bedside manner
