Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient assessment and deliver compassionate med-surg and ortho/trauma nursing care
• Titrate IV drips per protocol, including heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine, and manage PCA pumps safely
• Monitor telemetry awareness and collaborate with Tele/Monitor Techs to interpret patient status
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
• Manage admissions, discharges, and multiple patient transitions during busy shifts
• Practice safe patient handling using mechanical lifts and assistive devices
• Lead hourly rounding, communicate effectively with the care team, and act as a patient advocate
• Complete unit-specific orientation and pass the required competency exam during orientation

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for Nebraska
• Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience; MedSurg/Telemetry and Ortho/Trauma experience preferred
• BLS (AHA) required at time of submission
• ACLS preferred
• Experience with EPIC documentation and telemonitor awareness
• Skill with PCA pumps and IV medication titration
• Valid driver’s license required at time of submission (used to confirm radius eligibility)
• Willingness to work nights, float to other MedSurg areas, and meet every-other-weekend and holiday requirements
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within 50 miles

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment in med-surg and telemetry settings
• Telemetry monitoring awareness and rhythm recognition skills
• Medication titration knowledge including anticoagulants and specialty drips
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
• Experience with PCA pump management and post-op ortho care
• Safe patient handling and mechanical lift operation
• Cultural competence serving diverse populations including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese communities
• Excellent teamwork, time management, and communication skills
