Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care nursing for adults and adolescents (>15 years) in a 34-bed Med-Surg ICU
• Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory support (troubleshoot from nasal cannula to vents)
• Titrate vasoactive drips, paralytics, sedatives and other critical infusions safely per protocols
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry (Draeger heart monitoring) and respond to changes
• Respond rapidly as code and RRT team member, collaborating closely with charge nurses and the interdisciplinary team
• Care for patients with complex diagnoses: ARDS, sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT) and post-op critical care
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC, ensuring continuity of care and clear handoffs
• Float to other inpatient units as needed (excluding Maternity/NICU) and maintain professionalism across teams
• Support patient- and family-centered care, including education and compassionate communication at critical moments

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state of practice) required
• Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience required (per posting)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to verify 50-mile radius rule)
• Able to pass unit orientation open-book skills exam with a 90% score (required)
• Comfortable with critical care equipment and invasive lines (A-lines, CVP, Swan-Ganz) and willing to train on additional devices as needed
• Ability to float to inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU) and meet staffing/holiday scheduling needs
• Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI/Dignity) per radius rule

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing fundamentals and medication titration best practices
• Mechanical ventilation management and high-flow oxygen therapies
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring (Draeger systems)
• Experience or familiarity with CRRT, Impella/balloon pump concepts, ICP monitoring and advanced hemodynamic devices (training available)
• Proficient charting in EPIC and clear electronic documentation habits
• Strong critical thinking, teamwork, communication and rapid decision-making in high-acuity settings
• Code and rapid response (RRT) participation and leadership skills
• Familiarity with internal chemo administration workflows and transfusion devices (Bellmont rapid transfuser)
