Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem availability, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (day shift); days vary based on facility needs

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $16 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting) with dignity and respect
Support safe mobility and transfers, following facility protocols and using proper body mechanics
Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly
Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents
Document care provided accurately and timely in the resident record
Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents

Qualifications

Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification required
Previous experience working with older adults or in long-term care preferred
Ability to follow care plans and communicate clearly with residents and team members
Willingness to complete facility onboarding and mandatory trainings

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

Strong person-centered care approach and excellent bedside manner
Basic patient care skills: ADLs, feeding assistance, toileting, hygiene
Good observation and reporting skills to escalate concerns
Reliable time management and ability to work independently
Teamwork and clear communication with nursing staff and other caregivers
