Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate basic care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming)
- Measure and record vital signs and other observations accurately and promptly
- Assist with safe patient transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control procedures
- Communicate changes in a resident’s condition to the nursing team clearly and promptly
- Document care activities and resident responses in an accurate, timely manner
- Support residents’ dignity and emotional needs through respectful, person-centered interactions
- Collaborate with teammates to ensure smooth shift handoffs and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current CNA certification (per state requirements) — required
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Willingness to complete facility-required screenings (background check, TB test, immunizations)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; reliable and professional
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the role, including standing, walking, and assisting with patient mobility
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or completion upon hire if required by facility
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Current CNA certification (state-required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on experience with ADLs and basic patient care
- Proficient in taking and reporting vital signs
- Familiarity with infection control and patient safety practices
- Basic documentation skills and attention to detail
- Compassionate interpersonal skills and bedside manner
- Time management and ability to prioritize resident needs
- Team collaboration and clear communication with nursing staff
- Comfortable following care plans and supervisor directions
