Roles & Responsibilities

• Introduce yourself and verify patient identity using two forms of ID to ensure safe, accurate care
• Explain procedures clearly and compassionately so patients feel informed and comfortable
• Perform cardiac diagnostic imaging using 2D and Doppler modalities to evaluate heart anatomy and function
• Complete online cardiac calculations to quantify hemodynamic parameters and support diagnosis
• Report abnormal findings promptly to cardiologists and take appropriate safeguards for patient safety
• Assist cardiologists during transesophageal echocardiograms and support the team in complex procedures
• Collaborate with echo and EKG technicians to streamline workflow and ensure timely results
• Operate and troubleshoot echo PACS and stress testing equipment, escalating technical issues as needed
• Perform 12-lead ECGs when indicated and ensure accurate documentation and reporting
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and disinfection protocols and order supplies when necessary

Qualifications

• ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - Adult Echocardiography (AE) required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 5 years experience as an RDCS (AE) with demonstrated competency
• Formal training in cardiac sonography from an accredited program
• Strong computer, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to assist with transesophageal echocardiograms and perform 12-lead ECGs
• Familiarity with echo PACS systems and JCAHO guidelines
• Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including safe equipment handling

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Formal training from an accredited medical sonography program specializing in cardiac sonography

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in echocardiography (2D) and Doppler ultrasound techniques
• Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, arrhythmias, and common cardiac medications
• Skill in online cardiac calculations and interpretation of hemodynamic data
• Proficient in patient identification, communication, and exam prioritization
• Experience with equipment troubleshooting, cleaning, and disinfection
• Teamwork mindset and ability to work independently when required
• Competence in performing and interpreting 12-lead ECGs
