Roles & Responsibilities

• Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and determine priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs
• Perform thorough patient assessments and develop, implement and update individualized plans of care
• Document accurate, in-depth nursing histories and ongoing patient responses in the electronic chart
• Provide hands-on management of complications and emergencies in accordance with Mount Nittany policies and ENA standards
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available and functioning for safe patient care
• Deliver patient and family education, confirm understanding of discharge instructions, and assist with referrals and follow-up planning
• Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when patients are waiting
• Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, coordinated care

Qualifications

• Current Pennsylvania RN licensure (required)
• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications (maintained per AHA standards)
• Valid NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience in Emergency Department nursing and triage
• Familiarity with ENA standards and emergency nursing best practices
• EPIC electronic charting experience preferred
• Strong verbal, written and non-verbal communication skills and ability to work calmly under pressure
• Willingness to participate in scheduled on-call assignments as needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Triage and rapid patient assessment
• Patient-centered plan of care development and implementation
• Accurate nursing documentation and charting (EPIC preferred)
• Discharge planning and patient/family education
• Emergency interventions and critical thinking for all ages (neonate through geriatric)
• Familiarity with ENA standards and hospital policies
• Team collaboration and effective communication
