Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor maternal and fetal well-being continuously and interpret fetal monitoring strips to inform timely clinical decisions
• Manage labor progression, perform cervical exams within scope, and prepare patients for operative deliveries when needed
• Assist with deliveries and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies to ensure safe outcomes for mother and newborn
• Administer medications safely, document care accurately, and coordinate with the multidisciplinary team
• Provide compassionate postpartum education and emotional support to families during the birth experience
• Promote a positive, family-centered birth environment and advocate for patient preferences and safety

Qualifications

• Current Montana RN license (required)
• Experience in Labor & Delivery (must have L&D experience)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Demonstrated skill with fetal monitoring, cervical exams, medication administration, and operative delivery assistance
• Strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to provide emotional support during high-stress situations

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor & Delivery nursing best practices and maternal-fetal monitoring
• Interpretation of fetal heart rate tracing and recognition of obstetric emergencies
• Cervical exam technique and labor progression assessment
• Medication administration and safe documentation
• Postpartum care and newborn transition support, including NRP
• Effective patient education, communication, and family-centered care
