Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients using a comprehensive nursing process to identify needs and priorities
• Develop and implement individualized care plans, then evaluate outcomes
• Provide direct patient care for pediatric and adult patients pre- and post-operatively
• Lead clinically on the unit and assist with precepting and mentoring staff
• Coordinate discharge planning and ensure safe transitions from admission to home
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver cohesive care
• Implement and follow established policies and procedures with minimal supervision
• Delegate and provide direction to LPNs, CNAs and support staff to ensure quality care

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Montana or compact RN license depending on state requirements)
• Active BLS certification required; ACLS or PALS as relevant/encouraged
• Prior Med/Surg nursing experience caring for adult and pediatric patients preferred
• Demonstrated ability in patient assessment, care planning and clinical leadership
• Comfort with precepting and mentoring newer staff members
• Ability to follow policies and collaborate with providers, charge nurse and nurse leaders

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surg nursing best practices and standards of care
• Strong patient assessment and clinical evaluation skills
• Care planning, nursing interventions and discharge planning
• Experience in hospital and ambulatory service center settings
• Ability to direct and delegate to LPNs, CNAs and ancillary staff
• Effective communication and teamwork with multidisciplinary teams
• Pre/post-operative care knowledge and managing 5:1 patient-to-staff ratios
