Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality inpatient gastroenterology consults and manage hospital-based GI patients
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including colonoscopy, ERCP, PEG, and upper GI endoscopy with biopsy and therapeutic interventions
• Perform and interpret esophageal manometry and manage esophageal dilatation procedures
• Perform liver biopsy and manage related inpatient care
• Document all clinical encounters accurately and efficiently in Epic
• Collaborate with hospitalists, nursing, anesthesia, and ancillary services to coordinate patient care
• Cover 24-hour on-call responsibilities during assigned locum blocks
• Contribute to a safe, patient-centered environment and escalate care when needed

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree
• Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship
• Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology preferred
• Current or eligible medical license for South Carolina (able to complete credentialing quickly)
• Demonstrated experience performing colonoscopy, ERCP, PEG, upper and lower GI endoscopy, liver biopsy, and esophageal manometry
• Proficiency with Epic or similar electronic medical records
• Valid BLS (and ACLS if required by facility)
• Ability to start quickly and complete credentialing requirements in a timely fashion

Education

• MD or DO
• Gastroenterology fellowship completion

Knowledge & Skills

• Inpatient gastroenterology and hospital-based consult management
• Endoscopy skills: colonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, ERCP, sigmoidoscopy, PEG placement
• Procedural interpretation: esophageal manometry, liver biopsy
• Therapeutic endoscopic interventions including variceal banding and cautery
• Familiarity with Epic documentation and workflows
• Strong interdisciplinary communication and triage skills
• Ability to manage a high-volume inpatient caseload with sound clinical judgment
