Roles & Responsibilities

• Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in an acute care setting
• Provide professional consultations to the care team to optimize patient outcomes and safe discharge planning
• Perform and interpret instrumental assessments and manage therapeutic interventions (including FEES-related work)
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers, and other rehab professionals
• Document patient progress accurately and communicate recommendations to support continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (required)
• Current American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification (required)
• Current BLS/CPR at the HCP level (required)
• Completion of a FEES course; if not completed upon hire, must be completed within six months
• Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of acute care SLP experience; prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP
• Preferred experience with adult swallowing assessment/treatment, cognitive and communication evaluations, and augmentative communication devices

Education

• ASHA certification and current Hawaii State SLP license required
• FEES course completion required (or completion within six months of hire)
• BLS/CPR (HCP) certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders
• Comfortable and experienced in the acute care environment and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Experience with FEES, instrumental swallowing evaluation, and MBSImP techniques
• Familiarity with augmentative communication devices and assistive technology
• Proficient with documentation, patient-centered care planning, and infection control practices
