Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess pediatric patients pre-operatively and ensure clinical readiness for procedures
• Provide clear, compassionate education and coaching to children and their families
• Prepare and maintain a safe, child-friendly pre-op environment
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to streamline patient flow
• Document assessments, interventions, and handoffs accurately in the medical record
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies to protect patients and staff
• Support discharge planning and communicate post-operative care instructions effectively

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license — Massachusetts licensure required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS or pediatric certification preferred
• Experience or comfort working with pediatric patients in a perioperative or pre-op setting
• Strong communication skills for working with children and family members
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary surgical team
• Up-to-date immunizations and ability to pass required background checks

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Familiarity with pre-operative screening, fasting guidelines, and medication reconciliation
• Knowledge of perioperative safety standards and infection prevention
• Proficiency with electronic health records and documentation best practices
• Excellent prioritization, multitasking, and time management in a fast-paced setting
• Teamwork, clinical judgment, and patient-family centered care approach
