Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to oncology and women's surgical patients
• Manage patient admissions, discharges and transfers with excellent communication and coordination
• Administer chemotherapy and other medications safely when certified, following unit protocols
• Perform and assist with procedures as needed, such as pelvic exams, echocardiography support and thoracentesis monitoring
• Document patient care accurately in the Cerner electronic medical record and ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and execute individualized care plans
• Maintain patient ratios and prioritize patient safety in a fast-paced 24-bed oncology unit

Qualifications

• Active RN license (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience (experience in oncology or med-surg strongly preferred)
• Chemo certification preferred and will make candidates more competitive
• Comfort and experience with occasional pelvic exams, echo monitoring and thoracentesis care
• Ability to work nights and required weekend schedule, and to float to other med-surg units occasionally

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing fundamentals and symptom management
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record
• Medication administration and chemotherapy safety principles
• Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to triage acuity
• Teamwork, clear communication and a patient-centered approach
• Familiarity with standard med-surg equipment and hospital policies
