Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert bedside care for neonates in a Level III/IV NICU, maintaining a 1:2 patient ratio to ensure focused, high-quality treatment
- Manage complex respiratory support including CPAP/BiPAP, AC/PC/SIMV ventilator modes, high-frequency ventilation and oscillators
- Safely administer blood and blood products and perform neonatal dosage calculations with precision
- Support neonatal surgeries and attend high-risk deliveries, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team
- Perform central line/PICC care, feeding tube placement/management, and operate syringe pumps effectively
- Implement therapeutic hypothermia protocols (cooling/warming blanket) when indicated
- Float between campuses or units as needed, providing consistent, high-standard care across locations
- Document care accurately in Epic and communicate clearly with families and care teams
Qualifications
- Active RN license (compact license accepted at Swedish facilities)
- Minimum 3 years NICU experience (Level III for 3 years or Level IV for 2 years meets hardstop criteria)
- Experience with Level III/IV NICU patient population, including neonates as early as 23-24 weeks gestation
- Demonstrated ventilator management skills across modes (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP) and experience with high-frequency vents/oscillators
- Proficiency in blood/blood products administration and neonatal dosage calculations
- Hands-on experience with central lines/PICC, feeding tubes, syringe pumps, and therapeutic hypothermia
- Certifications: BLS and NRP preferred
- Comfort floating between campuses and occasionally supporting pediatrics/newborn bassinets
Knowledge & Skills
- In-depth knowledge of neonatal respiratory care and ventilator settings and troubleshooting
- Skilled in neonatal emergency and medication management, including cardioversion/defibrillation when needed
- Competent with central line/PICC maintenance and IV therapy in neonates
- Strong neonatal dosage calculation and medication administration skills
- Familiarity with Epic charting for accurate documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, surgery teams and rapid response
- Excellent family-centered communication and teaching skills
