Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct personal care to residents, assisting with ADLs such as bathing, dressing, feeding and mobility
• Take and record vital signs accurately and report abnormal findings promptly to the care team
• Perform restorative care activities including assistive device use and range-of-motion exercises to support patient independence
• Follow infection control and universal precautions to keep patients and coworkers safe
• Document patient observations, care provided, and any changes in condition clearly and timely
• Support the multidisciplinary treatment team by observing, reporting, and participating in care planning
• Respect and protect patient rights while promoting dignity and comfort

Qualifications

• At least 6 months experience in a long-term care (LTC) or similar healthcare setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers — must be obtained within 6 months of employment (or already current)
• Familiarity with basic nursing skills: vital signs, measuring output, recognizing abnormal signs and symptoms
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand simple sentences in English and follow oral/written instructions precisely
• Patience, emotional stability, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to tolerate challenging resident behaviors
• Physically able to perform duties that may include lifting, transferring, and extended periods of standing
• Previous work experience in Hawaii is a plus

• Taking vital signs and basic medical terminology
• Infection control and universal precautions
• Patient hygiene, bodily care and assistance with ADLs
• Restorative care techniques (assistive devices, range of motion)
• Accurate documentation and observation/reporting skills
• First aid and basic life support principles
• Strong oral and written communication, cultural competency, and patience
