Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect and accurately document patient information and maintain organized patient charts
• Perform vital signs, specimen collection, and Point of Care Testing (POCT) with attention to protocol
• Prepare patients for exams and assist providers with procedures and minor office surgeries
• Provide immunizations and injections as ordered, and help identify patients overdue for preventative care
• Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and radiology per competency and protocol
• Transport patients within the facility and report any changes in patient condition promptly
• Support clinic flow by managing patient care duties efficiently and providing cross-coverage when needed
• Participate in staff meetings and contribute to unit goals and process improvements

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III OR current Alaska Paramedic certification OR Nursing degree from an accredited institution (these can satisfy certification requirements)
• Current Alaska certification if applicable
• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Computer skills sufficient to use EMR systems and medical databases

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Nursing degree from an accredited institution accepted as an alternative qualification

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient charting and accurate medical documentation
• Vital signs measurement and age-appropriate assessment
• Specimen collection, labeling, and transport per protocol
• Point of Care Testing (POCT) and immunization administration
• Familiarity with EMR systems and medical terminology
• Ability to operate blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, EKG machines, cardiac monitors, and manual defibrillators
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations
