Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead engaging therapeutic recreation sessions tailored to mental health populations
- Design individualized activity plans that support patient goals and recovery
- Facilitate group and one-on-one interventions that promote social and functional skills
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate recreation goals into treatment plans
- Document care clearly and promptly in the EMR to track progress and outcomes
- Monitor safety, adapt activities as needed, and support a therapeutic environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred; state licensure if required
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Experience working with mental health populations preferred
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field
Knowledge & Skills
- Group facilitation and activity planning for therapeutic goals
- Behavioral de-escalation and crisis management skills
- Strong documentation skills and comfort with electronic medical records
- Excellent communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary staff
- Creative, person-centered approach to therapeutic activities
