Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform high-quality cardiovascular surgeries such as aneurysm repair, CABG, and heart valve replacement
• Provide hospital rounding and perioperative patient management with attention to safety and outcomes
• Collaborate with anesthesiology, ICU, and surgical nursing teams to coordinate patient care
• Document encounters and procedures accurately in EPIC for continuity of care
• Participate in handoffs and team communications to ensure seamless coverage during holiday shifts

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completed fellowship in Cardiovascular or Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Board certified or board eligible in Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Active or eligible for medical license in South Carolina (locum credentialing support available)
• Proven experience performing aneurysm repair, CABG, and heart valve replacement
• Familiarity with EPIC or similar electronic medical records
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications; ATLS or equivalent experience preferred
• Previous locum or hospital-based surgical coverage experience is a plus

Education

• MD or DO (Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship completed)

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced operative skills in open and complex cardiovascular procedures
• Strong perioperative judgment for critically ill cardiac patients
• Clear, compassionate communication with patients and multidisciplinary teams
• Proficiency with EPIC documentation and electronic order entry
• Ability to work independently during on-call/coverage periods while coordinating care effectively
