Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns
• Assess, monitor and document maternal and neonatal status accurately and promptly
• Collaborate with obstetricians, lactation consultants and interdisciplinary team members
• Educate and support new parents on newborn care, breastfeeding and postpartum recovery
• Administer medications and perform clinical interventions per hospital protocols
• Respond to patient changes and escalate concerns to appropriate providers
• Contribute to unit quality and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (state license or multistate compact where applicable)
• Minimum clinical postpartum/newborn nursing experience preferred (travel nurses often bring 1+ years of OB/postpartum experience)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred or willingness to obtain
• Immunizations and TB screening up to facility requirements
• Current ACLS may be preferred depending on unit; check with recruiter

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong maternal-child nursing assessment and clinical judgment
• Newborn care fundamentals including feeding, safety and routine assessments
• Lactation support basics and patient education skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary staff
• Ability to prioritize, document clearly and manage multiple patients
• Familiarity with electronic health records and unit-specific protocols
