Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform CVOR scrub duties across patient populations (neonate through geriatric) with meticulous attention to sterile technique.
• Prepare, handle, and pass surgical instruments and supplies efficiently to support optimal operative flow.
• Work independently within established protocols while collaborating closely with RNs and the surgical team to ensure patient safety.
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment, tact, and professionalism in all patient interactions.
• Document case information and maintain accurate electronic records using facility computer systems.
• Respond to on-call obligations as assigned to support emergent CVOR cases.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009).
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist, with Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) specialty experience required.
• Certification required: NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT (TS-C) or equivalent national certification.
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009).

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong scrub techniques specific to CVOR procedures.
• Proven ability to work across all age groups: neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric.
• Comfortable functioning independently and following established protocols.
• Sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, and a commitment to patient confidentiality.
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for documentation and case management.
