Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform first scrub role in complex CVOR cases including open hearts (CABG, valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, AAA repairs, carotids, and robotic surgeries
• Prepare and set up sterile field, instruments, and equipment for cardiovascular, thoracic, and vascular procedures
• Assist surgeons during procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments with precision
• Cross-train to general OR specialties during low CV volumes to support overall surgical department
• Participate in on-call rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage
• Float to the floor as a 1:1 sitter when needed to supplement hours and maintain patient safety

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification required
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT certification required
• ND UAP certification (or eligibility to obtain)
• Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience with demonstrated proficiency in open heart procedures
• Must be willing and able to first scrub for a variety of complex cases
• Flexibility to cross-train to other surgical specialties and float to patient sitting assignments
• Ability to respond to call within 15 minutes

Knowledge & Skills

• Expert sterile technique and aseptic practice in cardiovascular surgery
• In-depth knowledge of CVOR instrumentation, including Stryker towers and robotic systems
• Familiarity with open heart procedures: CABG, valve repair/replacement, aneurysm repair
• Competence in thoracic and vascular surgeries: thoracotomies, VATS, AAA, carotids
• Experience with ECMO and Impella device setup and management
• Strong teamwork and communication skills in a fast-paced surgical environment
