Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate critical care to pediatric patients in the PICU
• Manage ventilator settings and deliver advanced respiratory support including BiPAP and high-flow oxygen
• Titrate critical drips (sedation, vasoactive agents, paralytics) safely and precisely
• Perform and support procedures such as intubation/extubation, spinal taps, and port access
• Monitor cardiac and neurological status with EKG/EEG/telemetry and respond to changes quickly
• Document care accurately in the EMR (Meditech) and manage medications via Pyxis
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to nearby units (NICU, Nursery, OB/GYN) as needed while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain licensure in LA
• Minimum 1 year pediatric ICU (PICU) nursing experience required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications (required)
• Comfortable with ventilator management, intubation/extubation, and titration of critical drips
• Experience with Meditech EMR and medication dispensing systems (Pyxis) is a plus
• Ability to work independently, prioritize under pressure, and be a team player
• Willingness to float to NICU or OB/GYN areas when needed

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric critical care principles and bedside skills
• Ventilator management and respiratory support modalities (ventilator, BiPAP, high flow O2)
• Medication titration and critical drip management
• Procedural support: intubation/extubation, spinal taps, port access
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR and Pyxis medication systems
• Clinical monitoring: EKG, EEG, telemetry interpretation
• Use of unit equipment such as Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps, and Giraffe infant warmers
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and multi-tasking abilities
