Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver nursing care across the continuum for patients of all ages, making independent clinical decisions during your shift
- Perform emergency and acute nursing assessments, intervene in emergent situations, and provide calm, sound judgment under pressure
- Administer medications, maintain accurate electronic medical record documentation, and transcribe physician orders into the EMR
- Supervise and delegate to CNAs/Techs, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care and adherence to infection control procedures
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
- Maintain supply and medication levels, complete required administrative forms/reports, and notify leaders of safety or equipment needs
- Participate in department meetings, training, and policy development to continuously improve patient care and nursing practice
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must hold active Alaska license)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
- TNCC preferred (required for Emergency Department nurses)
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and maintained per policy
- High school diploma or equivalent required; graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN, BSN, or Diploma)
- Ability to work independently, supervise staff, and handle physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Experience in acute care, emergency department, or long-term care preferred but not required
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Nursing Diploma
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of nursing/medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations, and infection control
- Excellent assessment and emergency response skills in acute and emergency settings
- Proficient in medication administration and EMR documentation
- Skilled in delegation, supervision, and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
- Clear communicator with patients, families, and providers; able to document thoroughly and accurately
- Ability to remain calm and make sound clinical judgments in high-stress situations
