Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency department
• Make independent clinical decisions during scheduled shifts while maintaining full accountability
• Respond calmly and effectively in emergent situations using sound nursing judgment
• Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately
• Develop and implement individualized, goal-oriented care plans based on scientific principles
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care activities
• Educate patients and families about tests, procedures, and disease processes
• Provide emotional, intellectual, and psychological support to patients and significant others
• Delegate appropriately and supervise CNAs/Techs while ensuring quality patient care
• Document patient responses to care and maintain confidentiality of patient information

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted Alaska RN license required at time of submission
• BLS and PALS certifications required upon hire
• ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire
• One year of clinical nurse experience preferred
• Prior emergency department experience preferred
• Flu vaccination required
• Must live at least 50 miles from facility to be eligible for travel assignment

Education

• Education required to obtain a valid, current, full and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong foundation in nursing care principles, practices, and processes
• Ability to recognize and respond promptly to emergent situations
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their effects, and potential complications
• Proficiency with basic medical equipment including defibrillators and monitors
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to provide guidance and work cooperatively with healthcare team members
• Competency in implementing appropriate nursing interventions based on diverse patient needs
