Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care in the cardiothoracic operating room
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure all equipment is ready for cases
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to coordinate patient care
• Monitor patient status before, during, and after cardiothoracic procedures
• Respond professionally and calmly to intraoperative events and call coverage needs
• Educate patients and families about perioperative expectations and postoperative care
• Document care accurately and timely in the patient record and communicate handoffs clearly

Qualifications

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license (required)
• Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (required)
• Experience in Cardiothoracic Operating Room (CVOR) or perioperative nursing
• Comfort with call coverage and the ability to respond as needed
• Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills in high-acuity settings

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative protocols
• Familiarity with cardiothoracic procedures, instruments, and equipment
• Patient monitoring, EKG interpretation, and recognition of intraoperative changes
• Proficiency with documentation and electronic medical records
• Ability to remain composed and decisive during emergent situations
• Strong interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
