Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management for patients in a correctional setting
• Develop individualized treatment plans that balance clinical best practices with the unique needs of the patient population
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing, psychology and custody staff, to coordinate care
• Document assessments, treatment plans and progress notes accurately and timely in the facility medical record
• Respond professionally to psychiatric emergencies and contribute to safety planning and crisis intervention
• Participate in orientation, trainings and team meetings to maintain continuity of care and best practices

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program
• Active, unrestricted California medical license or eligibility to obtain one quickly
• Board certification or active board-eligible status in psychiatry preferred
• Experience or interest in working in correctional or forensic mental health settings is a strong plus
• Valid DEA registration or ability to obtain one, and current basic life support (BLS) certification
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Education

• MD or DO (Psychiatry residency completed)

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and psychopharmacology
• Familiarity with treatment planning and risk assessment in forensic or correctional settings
• Clear, concise documentation skills and comfort using electronic medical records
• Ability to manage complex cases and make timely clinical decisions
• Cultural sensitivity, de-escalation techniques and collaborative problem solving
