Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and organize sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment for operative procedures
• Function as the scrub person during surgeries, providing instruments and anticipating the surgical team’s needs
• Maintain and monitor the sterile field, taking corrective action to ensure patient safety
• Assemble supplies and assist with sterile draping and preparation of the operative field
• Perform instrument processing and decontamination and transport instruments to decontamination areas
• Assist the RN circulator with accounting procedures during cases
• Clean and prepare procedure rooms after cases and set up for subsequent patients
• Participate in ongoing education and competency verification to maintain high standards of care
• Support patient privacy, confidentiality, and the hospital’s mission, vision, and values

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
• CRASE training required if travel assignment extends beyond six months
• Willingness to float to other departments where qualified
• Demonstrated ability to perform scrub duties, instrument handling, and sterile technique

Education

• Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program

Knowledge & Skills

• Preparing sterile instruments and maintaining a sterile field
• Scrub/sterile instrument preparation and sterile draping
• Instrument decontamination, processing, and transport
• Assisting the surgical team during procedures with anticipation and focus
• Post-procedure room cleaning and efficient turnover
• Competency verification and commitment to continuing education
• Basic life support and adherence to patient safety protocols
• Ability to perform accounting procedures in collaboration with the RN circulator
