Neuro ICU Travel Nurse
Location: Columbus, OH
Start Date: 05-18-2026
End Date: 08-17-2026
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating day/night 12-hour shifts, 3x12 per week: Day 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / Night 7:30 PM - 7:30 AM; rotating schedule with every-other-weekend coverage and rotation every 4 weeks; on-call required
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-acuity neurocritical care including post-neurosurgery and acute stroke management
- Manage ventilated patients and advanced respiratory modalities such as HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP and suctioning
- Monitor and manage invasive neuromonitoring including ICP monitoring and external ventricular drains
- Start and maintain IV access, manage central, arterial and PICC lines, and administer blood products safely
- Titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips and manage continuous IV sedation according to protocols
- Interpret telemetry and 12-lead ECGs and respond rapidly to dysrhythmias and emergency situations
- Document accurately and efficiently in Epic to support continuity of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, PT, pharmacy and rapid response teams
- Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed and participate in on-call coverage
- Provide patient and family education, uphold infection prevention practices, and contribute to a culture of safety
Qualifications
- BCLS (required)
- ACLS (required)
- NIHSS (AHA) certification (required)
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience (strong neuro background preferred)
- Previous travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers will be screened
- Experience with Epic EHR (required)
- Ability and willingness to float to other units within the OSU organization
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)
- Comfort with on-call responsibilities and a flexible approach to scheduling
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Neuro ICU care including acute stroke and post-craniotomy management
- Ventilator and respiratory care management, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP and suctioning
- Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and external ventricular drain (EVD) care
- Telemetry/cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and 12-lead ECG acquisition
- Accessing and managing ports, arterial/central/PICC line care, and IV therapy
- Blood product administration and adherence to transfusion protocols
- Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips, continuous IV sedation, and emergency med administration
- EEG monitoring basics and management of neuromonitoring equipment
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions and safe procedural assistance
- Phlebotomy skills and familiarity with IV insulin protocols
