Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, professional patient care as a Certified Medical Assistant in a correctional facility
• Obtain and record vital signs, medical histories, and intake information accurately
• Assist clinicians with exams, treatments, and medication administration under protocol
• Document patient encounters and charting in the electronic health record in a timely manner
• Collect and label specimens, prepare samples and support necessary testing
• Educate and communicate with patients in a clear, respectful way while maintaining security protocols
• Follow all facility security rules, including restricted device policies, to ensure staff and patient safety
• Participate in team huddles and contribute to a positive, solution-focused care environment

Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) — required
• Prior experience in medical assisting or clinical support roles preferred
• Current BLS/CPR certification preferred
• Ability to pass background checks and comply with correctional facility security screenings
• Comfortable working in a secure/jail environment and following strict facility policies
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and CMA certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in taking vitals, patient intake, and basic clinical procedures
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) documentation and charting
• Knowledge of infection control, specimen handling, and safe medication practices
• Ability to follow clinical protocols and directions from supervising clinicians
• Comfort with working in a structured environment and following security procedures
• Good interpersonal skills for patient interaction and teamwork
