Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiography studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler) with accuracy and clinical confidence
• Carry out transesophageal, exercise stress and pharmacological echocardiography when ordered, delivering diagnostically useful images
• Execute other cardiac diagnostics as assigned, including EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and optimize echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors to support cardiology physicians
• Use hospital information systems to schedule, process and ensure correct charging and documentation for all studies
• Maintain infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection standards to protect patients and staff
• Provide clinical preceptorship and guidance to students from contracted colleges and universities
• Deliver age-specific patient care across the lifespan, with attention to neonatal and pediatric protocols

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program OR a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, including M-Mode and Color-flow Doppler
• Proficient with stress and pharmacological echocardiography protocols
• Experienced performing and interpreting EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress tests
• Comfortable operating echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems and Holter monitors with computer analysis
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation, and charging
• Strong infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection practices
• Ability to provide clinical instruction and preceptorship to students
• Competent providing age-specific care, including neonatal and pediatric patients
