Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal hygiene care for infants through geriatrics with compassion and clinical excellence
• Perform oral examinations, periodontal measurements, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application and dental radiography
• Monitor and record vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature) as part of routine patient care
• Manage your patient schedule to maximize care access and clinic flow
• Deliver patient education on oral hygiene, home care and nutrition to prevent disease and promote oral health
• Coordinate and run community prevention activities including sealant clinics, Head Start clinics and health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure instrument sterilization and infection control standards are met

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene program required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Passage of the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination required
• Active Dental Hygiene License in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter
• Reliable dexterity and ability to sit and work closely with patients for extended periods

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• High school diploma or GED (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical hygiene skills including periodontal therapy and preventive care
• Proficient with dental radiography (x-rays), infection control and instrument sterilization
• Excellent oral and written communication for patient education and team collaboration
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail in assessments and charting
• Comfort working across all ages — infants to geriatrics — and in community clinic settings
