Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive respiratory care and ventilator management for acute and chronic pulmonary patients in the Ventilator Unit
• Manage mechanical ventilation and perform airway management to promote safe ventilator liberation
• Develop and implement individualized respiratory treatment and education plans
• Collaborate closely with nurses, CNAs, rehabilitation staff, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care
• Monitor patient status, interpret respiratory data, and adjust therapy accordingly
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care, ventilator weaning, and long-term management strategies
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to regulatory and facility standards

Qualifications

• CRT accepted; RRT preferred (RRT credential by NBRC expected within one year of hire if preferred candidate)
• Current Wisconsin Respiratory Therapist license required (temporary WI license will be considered)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Prefer at least 2 years of respiratory therapy experience, ideally in skilled nursing or long-term care
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and commitment to patient-centered care

Education

• Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an AMA-accredited program

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and mechanical ventilation expertise
• Airway management and ventilator liberation techniques
• Assessment and treatment of acute and chronic pulmonary conditions
• Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
• Patient education and family communication skills
• Familiarity with long-term care or skilled nursing respiratory care models
