Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care for PCU/stepdown patients on a telemetry unit
• Perform continuous cardiac monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias to guide timely interventions
• Start and maintain peripheral and central IVs, manage PICC lines and perform phlebotomy as needed
• Administer and manage blood products and vasoactive/cardiac drips (no titration)
• Manage pre/post hemodialysis patient needs and related monitoring
• Respond to rapid response and code situations as part of the emergency response team
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Respiratory, PT, Pharmacy, Social Services) for coordinated patient care
• Document care accurately and thoroughly in Epic to ensure continuity and quality of care
• Support patient and family education, including discharge planning and follow-up instructions
• Maintain infection control practices, isolation precautions and safe use of PPE

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years clinical experience (PCU/stepdown experience emphasized; note: 1 year solid step-down/PCU may be considered)
• BLS and ACLS required
• Epic experience required
• NIHSS and procedural sedation experience preferred
• Experience with telemetry/cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and rapid response/code team use
• Familiarity with IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care and blood product administration
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring proficiency
• IV start and IV therapy management
• PICC, central line and arterial line care
• Blood product administration and phlebotomy
• Interpretation of ABGs and dysrhythmias
• High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP and non-invasive airway management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) and tracheostomy care
• IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Feeding tube care and wound care/Wound Vac familiarity
• Use of rapid response/code teams and emergency response procedures
