Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist therapists by implementing treatment plans that improve mobility, reduce pain, and restore function
- Provide direct, compassionate patient care under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist
- Document patient progress and outcomes accurately and promptly
- Teach patients and families practical home exercises to boost recovery and independence
- Set up, maintain, and ensure safe operation of therapy equipment
- Communicate clearly with the therapy team and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care
- Follow HIPAA and state licensing regulations to keep patients and the facility compliant
Qualifications
- Valid California PTA license (required)
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program (Associate degree or equivalent)
- Experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting preferred
- CPR certification preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused mindset
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility onboarding requirements
Education
- Associate degree or certificate from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise, modalities, and mobility assistance
- Strong documentation and charting practices
- Understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality
- Comfortable operating and maintaining therapy equipment
- Teamwork and collaboration with multidisciplinary care teams
- Good time management and patient education skills
