Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to long-term care residents while prioritizing safety and dignity
- Perform thorough nursing assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and document findings in the EHR
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and monitor resident responses
- Provide leadership on shift by delegating and supervising CNAs, LPNs, and ancillary staff
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, making sound clinical judgments under pressure
- Educate residents and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge plans to support optimal outcomes
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate resident care and follow physician orders
- Participate in quality improvement efforts, staff meetings, and mandatory competency trainings
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state
- Direct hire candidates must have applied for an Alaska nursing license prior to start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High-risk competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing: BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing
- High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment and care-planning skills across the lifespan
- Medication administration knowledge and safe practice
- Proficiency with EHR documentation and accurate charting
- Infection control practices and resident safety measures
- Ability to recognize and respond to acute changes and emergencies
- Familiarity with pharmaceuticals, AED operation, and basic medical equipment
- Excellent oral and written communication and patient/family teaching skills
- Leadership, delegation, and staff education abilities
