Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure rooms and patient care areas to ensure safe, efficient delivery of care before the first case.
• Review patient charts and confirm documentation, lab results, and consents are complete prior to procedures; escalate abnormalities to physician/NP.
• Prepare and prep patients for cardiovascular, electrophysiology, structural heart, and neuro-interventional procedures.
• Provide focused pre- and post-procedural nursing assessments and monitoring, communicating abnormal findings immediately and delivering thorough handoffs to receiving RNs.
• Circulate during procedures, assist physicians, maintain procedure logs and document in MacLab/CardioLab in real time.
• Administer procedural sedation per hospital and unit policies and monitor patients throughout.
• Operate and assist with cardiology diagnostic/interventional equipment including X-ray fluoroscopy, intra-cardiac ultrasound, and 3D mapping systems as applicable.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, adhere to 'Full Stop/Time Out' safety processes, and follow hospital/unit policies.
• Actively participate in preceptorship for new staff and pursue ongoing professional development and required certifications.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the role to support lab operations and patient care.

Qualifications

• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
• Required experience: ICU, CVICU, IMC or Cath Lab experience (manager note: new grads and med/surg-only nurses are not being considered)
• Preferred: Direct experience in Cardiovascular and EP Lab procedures (device implants, EP studies/ablations, structural heart procedures)
• Ability to work varied hours, respond to on-call pager, and function independently during diagnostic and interventional procedures

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required
• Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) required within 36 months of hire if not already obtained

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and pre/post-procedural monitoring
• Preparing procedure rooms, prepping patients, and circulating during procedures
• MacLab/CardioLab electronic documentation and real-time procedure logging
• Administering procedural sedation and recognizing/communicating abnormal findings
• Operating cardiology diagnostic/interventional equipment, X-ray fluoroscopy, intra-cardiac ultrasound
• Familiarity with hemodynamics, structural heart procedures (TAVR, LAAO) and EP device work (pacemaker/ICD)
• Experience with 3D mapping systems and neuro-interventional procedures (EVAR, carotid stenting, thrombectomy, aneurysm embolization, TCAR)
