Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Varies (facility schedule), 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM (Evening shift)

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $17 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting) to support resident dignity
Assist with safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and lift assistance as needed
Monitor and report changes in residents' condition to nursing staff promptly
Document care provided accurately and timely in resident charts
Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents
Engage residents with meaningful interaction and companionship to support emotional well-being
Collaborate with the care team to support individualized care plans

Qualifications

Active GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) — required
Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
High school diploma or GED preferred
Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings (TB, immunizations)
Compassionate attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team
Previous long-term care or assisted living experience preferred but new grads are welcome

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of basic resident care and ADLs
Familiarity with infection control and standard precautions
Basic charting and documentation skills
Safe transfer and positioning techniques
Strong interpersonal and time-management skills
Ability to follow care plans and work collaboratively with nursing staff
