Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem (days vary), 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Day shift)

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $16 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

Assist residents with daily living activities including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting with dignity and respect
Help with safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics
Take and record vital signs and communicate changes to the nursing team
Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to geriatric residents
Maintain accurate documentation of care and report incidents promptly
Follow infection control practices and help maintain a clean, safe environment
Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to support individualized care plans

Qualifications

Active GNA certification (required)
Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations/TB screening as required by facility
Comfort working with older adults and experience in assisted living or skilled nursing preferred
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred
Completion of an accredited GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of activities of daily living (ADLs) and geriatric care needs
Basic vital signs measurement and charting
Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
Infection control and hand hygiene best practices
Compassionate bedside manner and strong observational skills
Ability to follow care plans and accurately document care
