Shift Type: Rotating shifts (mix of 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts; schedule set by manager in 6-week blocks). Includes weekend call approximately every 5-6 weekends and required holiday call. Day/evening rotating coverage with floating between PreOp, PACU and Phase II.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care and phase II recovery for surgical patients, ensuring safe, comfortable transitions
• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments and prepare patients for a wide variety of procedures
• Monitor and assess patients continuously, recognizing and responding to changes in condition with timely interventions
• Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC to support continuity of care and clear communication
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to coordinate patient flow
• Administer advanced cardiac and pediatric life support as needed and participate in emergency responses
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions
• Float between PreOp, PACU and Phase II to meet unit needs and maintain staffing flexibility

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (eligible to practice in Nebraska)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with demonstrated experience in PreOp, PACU and Phase II
• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required
• Experience with EPIC charting required
• Driver's license required at time of submittal (used to confirm 50-mile radius eligibility)
• Must not be currently full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• Willingness to complete mandated orientation (1 week classroom + 1 week unit) and pass the open-book orientation exam with a 90% score
• Adherence to facility policies such as prohibition of artificial fingernails in patient care areas

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and monitoring skills in post-anesthesia and phase II settings
• Familiarity with perioperative case mix including orthopedics, bariatric (laparoscopic and robotic), general surgery, urology, GYN, spine and sports medicine
• Skills in preparing patients for Cath Lab, IR, TEE and radiology procedures
• Ability to manage multiple patients safely with unit nurse:patient ratios
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record for documentation and handoffs
• Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care environment
