Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care to surgical patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery after anesthesia
• Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs and physiologic status, intervening promptly when needed
• Manage ventilator monitoring and respiratory support for patients requiring advanced care
• Document patient assessments, interventions and progress in Cerner accurately and timely
• Collaborate with the peri-anesthesia team, techs and unit staff to deliver coordinated care
• Maintain patient safety and comfort while working within the unit’s 1:2 patient ratio
• Participate in scheduled call shifts and assist with unit flow, transfers and procedures as needed

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) — PACU specialty
• Minimum 2+ years of relevant nursing experience (as stated)
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS
• Experience with NIH Stroke Scale is required
• Advanced skills in ventilator monitoring are required
• Familiarity with Cerner for documentation
• Trauma and pediatric experience strongly preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing and post-op recovery management
• Patient monitoring and assessment skills for surgical patients
• Ventilator monitoring and respiratory support knowledge
• Proficient Cerner documentation and charting
• Comfort managing trauma and pediatric peri-anesthesia cases
• Experience with Endoscopy, PreOp and Phase II peri-anesthesia areas
• Understanding of unit staffing patterns, patient ratios and call responsibilities
