Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled nursing care to labor and delivery patients, ensuring safety and dignity at every stage
• Assess and monitor maternal and fetal status, intervening promptly when changes occur
• Administer and manage therapies and emergency protocols per unit policies (BLS/NRP/ACLS where applicable)
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC to support quality and continuity
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the multidisciplinary team to develop and execute care plans
• Support patients and families with education, emotional support, and clear communication during labor and postpartum
• Complete required CNE competency checklists and specialty exams to maintain excellence in clinical practice

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program
• Minimum 2 years of job-related nursing experience (or equivalent)
• Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Rhode Island (required)
• BLS required; NRP and ACLS required for Labor & Delivery assignments
• EPIC experience required/mandatory
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification preferred
• Willingness to complete Care New England skills checklist and specialty competency exams

Education

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong labor and delivery clinical skills including maternal/fetal assessment and interventions
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record workflows and documentation
• Ability to perform and interpret basic and specialty clinical assessments
• Competence in emergency response and neonatal resuscitation protocols
• Effective communication and teamwork in high-acuity, fast-paced settings
• Comfort with unit-specific competency testing and continual learning
