Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care consistent with facility standards and Trinity competency expectations
• Perform rapid, accurate assessments and interventions for emergency and acute presentations
• Utilize NIHSS and other neuro assessment tools to monitor and document changes in neurologic status
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and execute timely care plans
• Maintain required certifications and complete Trinity specialty competency testing
• Complete thorough and timely documentation in the facility EHR and participate in handoffs
• Support unit goals by participating in skills checks, competency validation and quality initiatives

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license (state licensure required for practice in Iowa)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required
• NIHSS competence or certification (stroke scale experience strongly preferred)
• Successful completion of license/certificate verification and facility onboarding checks
• Up-to-date immunizations and screening: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella, TB screening (2-step PPD or IGRA), and drug screening
• Fitness for duty/fit test and color vision verification as required by the facility
• Prior acute care, ED, neuro or trauma experience preferred

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• BSN preferred where applicable; required education per facility policy

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in trauma and emergency nursing assessments and triage
• Skilled in neuro monitoring and NIHSS administration
• Strong IV/medication administration and airway support skills
• Excellent documentation and clinical decision-making under time pressure
• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, therapists and support staff
• Comfortable with rapid skill validation and competency testing processes
